BIOGRAPHY

Born in the Philippines in 1971, Sigmund Q. Aberin started his artistic journey at early age. Drawing on the back of his school notebook and then later making handmade cards for his friends. It was a great outlet for his creative side which later was reignited upon the request of a close friend, blossoming to a full blown passion for painting.

He learned to paint with an airbrush in a month, starting on shirts, and banners`then later on other surfaces like helmets, glass, and once a hydroplane. With`no formal art education, Sigmund honed his skills through experimentation; not`afraid to push the limits of his technical abilities and media, Eventually getting`comfortable with acrylics and acrylic mediums. Currently working with Urethane
toners on Aluminum,. He feels strongly that the right media has to be used on`a surface to achieve an effect that people mistake his renditions for`photo collages. Sigmund also finds himself painting on suede matboard, an unusual acid-free surface which he finds it perfect for his dark yet subtle renditions of flamenco and ballet dancers.

Taking creative control is his trademark starting from the photographs he shoots, later translating the image on his painting surface. At close inspection one can notice the dominance of black and white, attention to detail and color greatly influenced by Patrick Nagel, Adolph William Bougureau, Gustav
Klimt, Maxfield Parrish, and more recently such contemporary artists like Lee Bontecou, romanticized subject matter of the Pre-Rphaelites to the curvilinear style of Art Nouveau. Communicating through mixed media gives the piece a sense of being, and the technical aspects of his paintings reveals itself in the finished work.
